|Kauffman Stadium Water Spectacular
Kansas City, Missouri
Two different fountains and more than 500,000 gallons of water create the Kauffman Stadium Water Spectacular. SEA restored both fountains to their former glory in time for the 2007 Opening Day at Kauffman Stadium.
In August 2006, the study and evaluation of the fountains began. All areas were sounded by chain dragging to determine the location and amounts of partial depth and full depth delaminations of the concrete. Site observations were also conducted to determine additional deterioration items.
The repairs began with the removal of all the plumbing and electrical systems, followed by the removal of the waterproofing coating systems down to the concrete surface. Additional testing was then conducted with ground penetrating radar to ensure that all voids underneath the slab on grade were discovered. After discovery, the voids were grout-injected. Once the voids were filled, all existing expansion joints were repaired, all existing cracks were grouted and sealed and a new waterproofing membrane system was installed. At the end of the repair process, the electrical and plumbing systems were reinstalled.
