Indian Creek Church
Olathe, Kansas
Construction on Indian Creek Community Church involved two separate phases. The first phase included the construction of the fellowship hall, office space and classroom space. SEA provided complete structural design services and contract documents for this 21,000 square foot, $3.2 million facility. It was necessary to explore various structural systems including curved Glu-Lam, curved beams, custom steel trusses and custom wood trusses for the design of the sanctuary.
SEA also provided structural design services for the recent $20 million, 100,000 square foot addition. The addition included a 1,200-seat sanctuary, a new education wing, a hospitality area, adult classrooms, office space and new space for youth activities. This phase was designed to interface with the existing structure and included a full basement and steel superstructure. The sanctuary also has a concrete cantilevered balcony and the first floor is concrete with a sloping sanctuary.
Structural highlights include a steel roof with three long-span partially exposed structural steel trusses and large skylights with exposed structural steel. A complex geometric design gives the building visual interest.
